Accelerated Reader

Open_book Have you ever wondered how to find a list of our Accelerated Reader (AR) books?   Just go to the Clarkdale Elementary School web page. It can be accessed at www.cobbk12.org/~clarkdale.   On the left side of the screen you will see a link to AR Quiz list. You will be able to access all of our AR titles sorted by book level. Your child can check out a book at any public library, read it and then take an AR test at Clarkdale.  What a great way to help your child get ahead in his reading!

Upcoming Printers

On April 14, each classroom will receive a new black/white laser printer. Thanks to SPLOST II, (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) Cobb County will be able to provide teachers with these printers. In addition, Clarkdale will receive one color laser printer for every six classrooms.

Thanks to your generosity, the Clarkdale Media Center was able to earn  over $1000 during the Scholastic Book Fair. This money will go to purchase needed items for the Media Center such as equipment and Accelerated Reader (AR)  tests.

"Honorary Media Specialists"

Mrs. Jorgensen and Mrs. Johnson have been looking for students who have shown their LIFESKILLS of integrity, responsibility and cooperation in the Media Center. We have chosen a few students to be our "Honorary Media Specialists" of the day. They have helped us with checking books in and out before school each day.

Here are some of our helpers: Click to see their photographs.

They're Here!

Last Thursday our school was "invaded" by crews of workers who were delivering 131 new computers to our school. Each classroom was outfitted with two new Dell computers. Our computer lab now has 24 state of the art computers and the Media Center received 13 new computComputerers. Thanks to SPLOST (Special Purpose Location Option Sales Tax) each school in Cobb County received replacement of all computers over 5 years old.   Ask your children about the new computers; they are very excited.

Each school in Cobb County has, or will, receive new computers thanks to the taxpayers in our county. We are all excited about this project, even our students. Volunteers needed!

Volunteer Mrs. Jorgensen and Mrs. Johnson would love to have parent volunteers  in the Media Center. You would assist them in returning books to the shelves, checking books in/out and help our students in locating books and taking Accelerated Reader tests. This is also a great way to see what resources we have for students and adults in the Clarkdale Media Center.

If you are interested, send Mrs. Jorgensen an e-mail at michelle.jorgensen@cobbk12.org.

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great summer. I was glad to see that we had so many summer readers. We will celebrate by having a popsicle party on Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Johnson and I are glad to see the students beginning to  check  out books. They have all seemed so eager to come back to the Media Center this year.
